Community Guidelines

A random video chat works only while strangers can trust the next match. These guidelines are the rules that keep the pool worth spinning — short enough to read in two minutes, enforced by humans around the clock.

1The one rule behind all the others

There is a real person on the other side of your screen — someone who clicked the same button you did, hoping for a decent conversation. Treat them the way you would want the next stranger to treat you. Everything below is just that sentence applied to specific situations.

2Adults only, no exceptions

ChatRoulette Live is strictly for people aged 18 or older. Any session found to involve a minor is terminated immediately and reported where the law requires it. If you suspect your match is underage, end the chat and report it — this is the one rule where we would rather investigate a hundred false alarms than miss a single real case.

3What is never welcome on camera

The following end conversations, accounts, or both:

  • Sexual content of any kind involving a minor — reported to the authorities, always
  • Harassment, threats, hate speech, or mocking someone for who they are
  • Unwanted sexual behavior toward a chat partner who has not clearly welcomed it
  • Filming, screenshotting or re-broadcasting your match without their consent
  • Begging, scamming, or steering strangers toward outside links, gifts or payments
  • Fake cameras — bots, loops and pre-recorded video instead of a live person

4Respect the privacy of the person you meet

A chat on ChatRoulette Live is a private moment between two people. Never pressure a match for their real name, address, social accounts or photos; never share what you saw or heard in a private chat outside of it. The same protection covers you: you never owe a stranger personal details, and leaving a conversation needs no excuse.

5Money stays out of the chat

No user may ever ask another user for money, gift cards, crypto or favors with a price tag — in either direction. Anyone who does is running a known pattern, and the correct response is skip plus report. ChatRoulette Live staff will never ask you for payment inside a chat; coin purchases only ever happen on the official site, with the price shown up front.

6How enforcement works

Reports land in a human moderation queue that runs around the clock. Depending on severity, a confirmed violation leads to a warning, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban — and cases involving minors, threats or illegal conduct skip straight to the strongest response. Patterns matter: one report gets reviewed, several independent reports about the same user get acted on fast.

7Appeals and questions

If you believe your account was actioned by mistake, you may appeal once by emailing [email protected]; a moderator who was not involved in the original decision reviews the case. Questions about these rules are welcome at the same address — and the safety tips page is the practical companion to everything above.
