The practical manual for ChatRoulette Live, kept short on purpose. Each section answers the questions people actually ask, in the order they usually ask them — from the first camera prompt to the day something stops working.

1Getting started: camera and microphone

Open chatroulette.live in any modern browser — Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox, on a phone or a laptop. The first time you enter a chat the browser asks for camera and microphone permission; allow both and you are matching within seconds. Nothing installs, and no account is needed for the first chats.

If you accidentally blocked the prompt, click the lock icon in the address bar, set camera and microphone to Allow, and reload the page.

2Matching, skipping and the gender filter

One tap on start pairs you with a stranger who is online at that moment. One tap on next ends the match and opens a new one — instantly, as many times as you like, with no penalty for skipping. The gender filter, switched on before you start, steers the shuffle toward real girls on cam; leave it off for a fully random match from anywhere in the world.

Prefer typing first? Every chat can run on text until you choose to turn the camera on.

3Coins and payments

Starting out is free — new users receive free matches to try the product. Longer sessions may use coins, sold in one-time packages; the price is always shown before you confirm, and nothing renews or rebills afterward. If a payment succeeded but your balance did not move, wait a minute and refresh; if it is still wrong, email [email protected] with the date and amount and we will fix it manually.

4Account and privacy

You can chat without an account, and your live conversations are never recorded — when a match ends, it is gone. Account holders can ask us to export or delete their data at any time by writing to [email protected] from the account address. The full detail of what we collect and what we never touch is in the privacy policy.

5Staying in control: skip, block, report

Every screen carries the same three controls. Skip ends the match silently. Block prevents that person from matching with you again. Report sends the case to a human moderator — use it for anything that crosses the line in the community guidelines, from harassment to anyone asking for money. Reporting costs you five seconds and protects the next stranger.

6Quick fixes for common problems

Most issues on a browser-based video chat come down to a short list:

  • Black screen or frozen video — check the browser permission, then reload; a VPN or strict firewall can also block the video stream
  • Echo or no sound — confirm the right microphone is selected in your browser settings, and close other apps using it
  • Chat will not connect — switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa; some networks filter the ports video chat uses
  • Something else entirely — email [email protected] with your device and browser, and a human will walk you through it
